On Site Screening Audiometry Course

Learn and develop all the skills and competencies required to become a competent Screening Audiometrist as stipulated in AS1269.

This course can be run as a 2 day onsite course or as a 1 day hybrid course, with 6 modules via correspondance and then 1 day face to face

Some of the topics that are included in the course:

As per AS/NZ 1269.4:2014, competency components addressed in the course are:

(1) Objectives of the audiometric test in noise management.

(2) Basic physics of sound.

(3) Correct usage and limitations of audiometers and audiometric booths.

(4) Basic anatomy and physiology of the auditory pathway.

(5) Basic mechanisms of hearing.

(6) The audiogram & its relationship to the detection & understanding of speech.

(7) Noise induced hearing loss, its pattern, progress, cause and prevention.

(8) Correct headphone placement and test subject instruction.

(9) Correct audiometric test technique.

(10) Recording the results of an audiometric test.

(11) Basic audiometric test result interpretation and explanation of the results.

(12) Referral procedures for audiological, medical or rehabilitative purposes.

(13) Correct selection, usage and limitations of personal hearing protectors.

(14) Standard, AS/NZS 1269.4 and NAL 80.

(15) Requirements of relevant legislation concerning audiometry in occupational noise

management, particularly those relating to confidentiality of audiograms.

(16) Awareness of ototoxic agents.

(17) Tinnitus, causes, effects & Management.

(18) Equipment performance and calibration check
